Linn-Mar’s own Director of Bands, Steve Stickney, has been selected to attend the 2013 Symposium on Music in Schools and to receive the Yale Distinguished Music Educator Award.
The Symposium on Music in Schools, presented with support from the Yale College Class of 1957, is held once every two years at the Yale School of Music. The event honors selected teachers from around the country for their exceptional accomplishments teaching music in public schools.
All current teachers of music in United States public schools were eligible for nomination. The applications were reviewed by Yale’s panel of music professionals, and just fifty teachers were chosen to attend the Symposium, all expenses paid. From a pool of nearly 300 outstanding nominations representing 45 states, Mr. Stickney was chosen for this great honor.
This year’s Symposium theme is The Role of Music in School Reform. From June 6-9, these distinguished music educators will convene in New Haven to discuss vital issues in music education and to participate in a variety of workshops, discussions, and other events. The Yale Distinguished Music Educator Award will be presented to Mr. Stickney at a special banquet on June 8, 2013.
Linn-Mar Community Schools congratulates Steve Stickney on this noteworthy achievement.
