Robotics Team Honors Dan Niemitalo FIRST
All News Stories
Dan Niemitalo was recently selected as a finalist for the Woodie Flowers Award at the FIRST Robotics Competition’s North Star Regional event. Only one adult mentor is chosen as a finalist at each regional competition. The winner of the Woodie Flowers Award will be presented to one of the finalists at the FIRST World Championship Competition in St. Louis later this month.
The Woodie Flowers Award celebrates effective communication in the art and science of engineering and design. Dr. William Murphy founded this prestigious award in 1996 to recognize mentors who lead, inspire, and empower using excellent communication skills.
FIRST stands “For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology.”
The Woodie Flowers Award is based on a student-led nomination and student decision. Our students from Linn-Mar Robotics team submitted an essay describing how Mr. Niemitalo’s mentoring of their team gave them an understanding of the challenges, opportunities and satisfaction involved in the discipline of engineering and design.
