Summer Opportunities – Elementary
It is that time of year when we let you know of some summer opportunities for your learner. None of these are sponsored by Linn-Mar. It is not our intention to suggest your child needs to be involved in any of these, but parents often ask for this information.
Do not delay on any of these options. Spaces fill quickly.

These classes are for all students entering grades 5-9. They have a HUGE variety of classes to choose from. If not yet, information will soon be posted on their website.

Belin – Blank Center – University of Iowa
BLAST (formerly ChESS) is an academic commuter program for students finishing grades 2-6. Registration begins in January, so do not delay if you are interested in this program. They also have a wide variety of classes from which to choose. To learn more or register visit their website.

NewBo Summer Challenge STEM Camps
This will be located in the NewBo area. They are building camps focused solely on 21st century skills: coding, engineering, critical thinking, entrepreneurship, leadership, creativity.
Jacobson Institute for Youth Entrepreneurship Summer Camp
The Jacobson Institute for Youth Entrepreneurship at The University of Iowa is offering a one-week day camp here in Cedar Rapids. Current 4th and 5th graders are eligible to apply. Applications are available online. See website or contact Allison Winter at (319) 384-0760.
Summit Schools Summer Camp
The Summit School runs a summer program with a variety of enrichment classes as well. For information on this, call them at (319) 294-2036 or visit their website.
Discover Summer School
This program is through the Cedar Rapids Community Schools gifted program. It takes place at Cedar Rapids Roosevelt middle school. It is for students finishing grades four and five with a composite ITBS score of 85% or above. Past courses have included choices in mock trial, Spanish, math games, space, computers, quilting, chemistry, drama, chess, and many others. Registration opens in March and applications are due in April. Classes fill quickly. If you are interested in this program, dates and more information are available at their website.

Iowa State Adventures Program
This program is designed to challenge the minds of younger students. Students finishing grades 2-6 may be eligible with a score of 90%ile or higher on the ITBS tests. These classes are held in Ames and are not residential. For more information visit their website. Registration has already begun.
Iowa State Engineering Kids Camps
ISEK Camps are a cool way to check out the latest technology, awesome engineering activities, and experience campus, not to mention toy around with some amazing robotics. ISEK Camps are a great way to learn more about how engineers solve problems, get creative, and innovate cool solutions.
