COVID Update – Masks and Vaccines – 5/16/21

Masks Requirements 5/16/21

Linn-Mar Superintendent and School Board decide to continue to require masks for the rest of the school year.

Linn-Mar families,

On Friday, May 14, 2021, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and the Iowa Department of Public Health (IDPH) issued separate and contradictory guidance regarding mask usage. In the absence of consistent guidance from our health officials, and after consulting with our school board elected officials, I have decided we will continue our current policy on masks for the remainder of the school year for the following reasons:

  • Given the short number of days (17) until the conclusion of the school year, we will keep in place our current face mask requirements and other mitigation protocols.
  • At this time Linn-Mar students are largely unvaccinated. We are partnering with UnityPoint to offer an on-site vaccine clinic to students 12 years and older this week. The second dose will be administered on the last day of school. (Please see below for more info about the on-site vaccine clinic)

Our primary focus since the start of the school year is to provide a safe environment for our students and staff. This priority has not changed. We will reevaluate all of our COVID protocols and guidelines for the 2021-22 school year through this summer.

Shannon Bisgard
Linn-Mar Superintendent

On-Site Vaccine Clinic

Linn-Mar is partnering with UnityPoint to offer an on-site vaccine clinic for Excelsior Middle School, Oak Ridge Middle School and Linn-Mar High School students 12 years and older.

Students wishing to receive the vaccine will need to have the consent form filled out by a parent/guardian and bring with them to their scheduled appointment. This is required for vaccination.

Students will receive the Pfizer vaccine. The first dose will be offered on Tuesday, May 18 and Wednesday, May 19. The 2nd dose will be offered on Tuesday, June 8th and Wednesday, June 9th

All school absences will be excused for students attending the vaccine clinic (15 minute appointments).
