First Lego League Challenge This Saturday

On Saturday, December 10th, 12 groups from Marion and the surrounding area will compete at Hazel Point Intermediate School in the FIRST LEGO League Challenge, a robotics competition in which teams must also create a unique solution to a real-world energy problem.

Teams of students in fourth through eighth grades design and program a robot made of LEGOS to solve missions and earn points.

There are about 300 LEGO League teams statewide who are taking part in the challenge. Winning teams will advance to state competition on January 28th at Iowa State University.

Pictured are teams from Hazel Point and Oak Ridge Middle School taking part in a scrimmage at Oak Ridge to prepare for next week’s competition. Students in Linn-Mar High School’s robotics team were on hand to help facilitate the event.
