Future Health Professionals Discover Opportunities
Representatives from Mercy Medical Center paid a visit to the Linn-Mar High School HOSA club. They shared information with the club members about the many opportunities available for high school students who want to get ‘their foot in the door” toward a medical career.
The students learned about volunteer and entry-level paid positions as well as scholarships and other financial incentives available for those pursuing a nursing major in college.
The group discussed that the best way to “try out” a medical career was to become a volunteer. They concluded If someone becomes queasy around blood, it’s best to find out before they get started on a medical major.
The Linn-Mar HOSA Club is part of a global student-led organization recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and the Department of Health and Human Services and several federal and state agencies. HOSA’s mission is to empower Future Health Professionals to become global health community leaders through education, collaboration, and experience.
