LMHS Show Choirs Wrap Up Another Great Season

The Linn-Mar Show Choir Program is made up of approximately 250 students, over 10% of the Linn-Mar high school student population. The three ensembles, Hi-Style, a treble voiced prep show choir, In Step, a mixed-voice prep show choir, and 10th Street Edition, a mixed-voice varsity show choir, begin their work with a choreography learning camp in August and proceed to learn a 20-minute competition show that they work on for the duration of the year.

These shows are fully choreographed with technical instruction by some of the best choreographers in the country, arranged into 4-8 vocal parts, costumed to the theme of the production, and rehearsed for approximately 4 months before each group takes their show to competition. Each group involves a group of singer/dancers, a 10-20 piece band, and a group of 10-20 crew members.

These students rehearse from 4-7 hours per week from August to February and attend four competitions each. They are judged in competition based on three categories, Vocals, choreography, and band.

This year, all three Linn-Mar Show Choirs finished first in their division at all four competitions. 10th Street Edition, the varsity show choir in front of you today, Was awarded grand champion each time competing. They were also awarded best Vocals, best choreography, and best band at all four competitions.

The Linn-Mar show choir program is regarded by professionals as one of the best in the region, and the varsity show choir, 10th Street Edition (see photo), is considered one of, if not the best in the nation.

The determination, energy, and drive it takes these students to prepare professional-level theatrical productions is awe-inspiring. These students are not just gaining valuable experience in working together towards a common goal. They are gaining experience in building collaborative art that is some of the highest quality in its genre.

We are tremendously proud of our students and the stories they have told so brilliantly this season. They wrapped up their performances for the year this past weekend, but are eager to share their skills next fall!
