LMHS to Host Career Fair April 8th

Career Fair 03Linn-Mar High School is excited to host a career fair for students and parents on Monday, April 8th from 5:30 – 7:30 pm. While this event is open to parents — our students are the primary focus of the career fair. Please feel free to encourage your student to attend independently or with you.

The career fair will consist of three types of opportunities for students and parents: career speakers, career and education/training information sessions, and exhibitor booths.

5:40-5:55 Introduction to the Career Fair and High School Planning Information (All Participants)

Presented by Elizabeth Kreher and Sheryl Cline, LMHS School Counselors

This presentation will provide you with important information as your student continues on his/her high school education including information about graduation requirements, credits, and career and education/training exploration opportunities at LMHS.

6:00-6:25 Session 1: Career Speakers – Pre-Registration Encouraged

Career speakers will be presenting 25 minute information sessions to students and parents.  This information will be directed toward student learning, but parents are welcome to attend.  Available speakers are below:

  • Building Trades/Electrician
  • Social Worker
  • Doctor – Medical Director
  • Chef/Culinary Arts
  • Nurse
  • Criminal Investigator

Navigating the Last Years of High School

Presented by Sarah Matheny, Career Development Coordinator, Kirkwood Linn Regional Center, Hiawatha

Mrs. Matheny will discuss what your student can do to stand out to potential colleges, programs, and employers throughout high school. She will also mention opportunities to explore careers and earn college credit in high school. This presentation is intended for students and parents.

Naviance Student

Presented by Sheryl Cline, 9-10 School Counselor, LMHS

This session will provide parents with information on how to access Naviance Student to track their students’ career and post secondary planning progress. Parents will learn about the activities completed each year of high school, how to use the SuperMatch College Search, explore Careers, and find scholarship information.
