Pete the Cat and His Groovy Buttons was chosen for a program recently launched in the Cedar Rapids metro area called One 2 Read. The reading initiative is led by Reading Into Success, a local collaboration of The Campaign for Grade-Level Reading.

Each 2nd-grade student at the four metro-area school districts will receive a copy of the book by Eric Litwin.

The program’s goal is to initiate engagement by providing programs and activities to create shared experiences over the same book. Local libraries will host programs with activities that celebrate the book, literacy, and reading together.

Second-grade students at Novak Elementary take some time to read their “Pete the Cat” books!

Students can look forward to author visits, scavenger hunts, and various other exciting programs across Cedar Rapids and Marion. The events, which start in April, will bring the story to life and build excitement to reading as summer break approaches.

The One 2 Read program supports Reading Into Success and their goals of increasing 3rd-grade reading proficiency to 95 percent and closing the opportunity gap.

Students and families are invited to attend An Evening with Eric Litwin: Original author of Pete the Cat at the Cedar Rapids Public Library at 5:00 pm or 7:00 pm on Tuesday, April 4. Additional event information can be found at the Cedar Rapids Public Library website.
