Linn-Mar’s Finest to Perform at State Music Events

A total of 76 Linn-Mar musicians and vocalists will be taking part in special events this week.

Two concerts, held on the Iowa State Campus in Ames, will showcase the finest instrumental and vocal talent from schools  across the state.

Thursday afternoon, 27 Linn-Mar 5th through 9th grade students will participate in the 32nd annual Iowa Opus Honor Choir Festival.

Nearly 3,000 students were nominated by their directors statewide, for 720 positions in the four Opus Honor Choirs.
Linn-Mar will be represented by two 9th grade High School students, twenty Middle Schoolers, and five Elementary Students.
The four choirs consist of: The 5th and 6th Grade Honor Choir, The 7th and 8th Grade Treble Clef Choir, The 7th and 8th Grade Bass Clef Honor Choir and the 9th Grade Mixed Honor Choir.
That concert is Thursday, November 15th at 4 PM at C.Y. Stephens Auditorium in Ames.

Then on Saturday, it’s the 2018 Iowa All-State Music Festival Concert. 48 Linn-Mar 10th through 12th graders were accepted to either the Iowa All-State band, orchestra or choir. There were 15 accepted to the All-State Band with two alternates, 19 string players accepted to the All-State Orchestra with three alternates, and 14 accepted to the All-State Chorus.

The Iowa All-State Music Festival will be held Saturday, November 17th at the Hilton Coliseum in Ames.
